Blogging is an important part of any business' success, offering a platform to communicate with customers and establish an online presence. However, without the necessary knowledge and understanding of how to run a blog effectively and achieve growth, the results can be quite disappointing.

In this post, we’ll take a look at seven ridiculously simple – yet often overlooked – reasons why your blog may not be growing, and suggest ways to fix them.

If you’re a business owner looking to effectively leverage your blog and grow your business, this post is for you.

1. You’re Not Posting Regularly Enough

If you’re not posting to your blog on a regular basis, it’s unlikely that your blog will get much traction. Consistency is key when it comes to blogging, both in terms of frequency and quality. If you want your blog to grow, you need to be posting fresh content on a regular basis. How often you should be posting will depend on your specific goals and audience, but a good general rule of thumb is to aim for at least 2-3 times per week.

2. Your Posts Are Too Long (or Too Short)

When it comes to blogging, there is no such thing as a “one size fits all” approach. The ideal length of your blog posts will vary depending on your audience, your topic, and your overall goals. That being said, there is such a thing as being too long-winded or too brief. In general, posts that are too long will lose the attention of your readers, while posts that are too short may not offer enough value. A good rule of thumb is to aim for posts that are between 500 and 1000 words.

3. Your Posts Are Boring

If your posts are dull and uninteresting, it’s unlikely that anyone will want to read them. When crafting your posts, be sure to make them engaging and informative. Write in a style that is true to your voice, and be sure to inject some personality into your writing. No one wants to read a blog that feels like it was written by a robot, so be sure to let your human side shine through.

4. You’re Not Promoting Your Posts Enough

Even the best blog post in the world won’t do much good if no one knows it exists. In order for your blog to grow, you need to make a concerted effort to promote your content. Share your posts on social media, reach out to influencers in your industry, and interact with other bloggers in your niche. The more people you can get to see your content, the more Growth potential your blog will have.

5. You’re Not Leveraging Guest Posts

Guest posting is a great way to get your blog in front of a new audience and grow your reach. By publishing guest posts from other bloggers, you’ll not only be boosting the exposure of your own blog, but also building relationships with other bloggers in your industry. Guest posting is a win-win situation, so be sure to leverage it to its fullest potential.

6. You’re Not Using Images

People are visual creatures, and incorporating images into your blog posts can be a great way to make them more engaging and visually appealing. In addition to being more attractive to read, posts with images are also more likely to be shared on social media. If you want your blog posts to be seen and shared, be sure to use images liberally.

7. You’re Not Tracking Your Stats

If you’re not tracking your blog’s growth and performance, it’s difficult to know what’s working and what isn’t. By tracking your blog stats, you’ll be able to see which types of posts are performing well, which promotion methods are yielding the most results, and which topics are resonating with your audience. Once you have this information, you can adjust your blogging strategy accordingly and double down on the things that are working.

8. You’re Not Asking for Comments

One of the best ways to encourage reader engagement is to simply ask for it. At the end of your posts, be sure to include a call-to-action that encourages readers to leave a comment. If you make it easy for people to leave a comment, they’ll be more likely to actually do it. And the more comments you have on your posts, the more engaged your readers will be.

9. You’re Not Interacting with Your Comments

If someone takes the time to leave a comment on your blog, the least you can do is respond. By interacting with your readers in the comments section, you’ll be fostering a sense of community and connection. This, in turn, will make people more likely to keep coming back to your blog. So, don’t forget to show your readers some love in the comments section.

10. You’re Not Updating Older Posts

If you want your blog to continue growing, you can’t just sit back and relax after you hit “publish” on a new post. In order to keep your blog relevant and engaging you need to periodically go back and update your older posts. This keeps your blog fresh and prevents it from becoming stale. Plus, it’s a great way to attract new readers who are interested in the updated information you’ve provided.

11. You’re Not Creating “Evergreen” Content

Evergreen content is the key to a successful blog. This type of content is timely and relevant, yet never goes out of style. By creating evergreen content, you’ll ensure that your blog remains relevant and grows steadily over time.

12. You’re Not Re-purposing Your Content

Not everyone consumes content in the same way. Some people prefer to read blog posts, while others prefer to listen to podcasts or watch videos. By repurposing your content into different formats, you’ll reach a wider range of people and grow your blog more quickly.

13. You’re Not Accepting Guest Posts

If you want to grow your blog, you need to leverage the power of guest posting. By accepting guest posts from other bloggers, you’ll get your blog in front of a new audience and build relationships with other bloggers in your industry. Guest posting is a win-win situation, so be sure to take advantage of it.

14. You’re Not Leveraging Influencers

If you want to get your blog in front of a larger audience, you need to leverage the power of influencers. Influencers are people with a large social media following who can help promote your blog to their audience. By building relationships with influencers, you can quickly and easily grow your blog’s reach.

15. You’re Not Networking

If you want to be successful no matter what industry you’re in, networking is essential for success. By building relationships with other bloggers, you’ll be able to grow your blog more quickly and get access to a larger audience.

As a small business owner, you know the importance of having a clear and defined set of values. Your core values guide everything you do, from the products and services you offer to the way you treat your employees.

In this post, we'll explore why core values are so important, and how you can go about defining your own.

Having a clear set of values is important for any business, but it's especially crucial for small businesses. This is because small businesses are typically built around the vision and values of the owner. Your values will shape the way you run your business, and they'll be the foundation upon which you make all of your decisions.

Defining your core values is the first step in building a strong foundation for your business. But how do you go about doing that? Here are a few tips:

Think about what's important to you. What do you believe in? What do you stand for? These are the things that should be reflected in your core values

Keep it simple. You don't need to have a long list of values; just a few key principles that you can stand behind.

Make sure your values are relevant to your business. They should guide the way you operate and help you make decisions that are in line with your goals.

Be prepared to live by your values. Your core values should be more than just words on a piece of paper; they should be something you actively practice in your business.

Your core values are an important part of who you are as a business owner. They should be something you're proud of and excited to share with your employees and customers. By taking the time to define your values, you'll be setting your business up for success.

Tips on inspiring company values: There are many ways to show your company values. Here are a few examples:

Put your people first
This may seem like an obvious one, but it can be easy to forget when you’re trying to run a business. Putting your employees first will not only make them feel valued, but it will also make them more productive.

Be transparent
If you want your employees to trust you, you need to be open and honest with them. This means being transparent about your business decisions and sharing information about the company’s finances.

Promote from within
One way to show your employees that you value them is to promote from within. This sends the message that you are willing to invest in your employees and that you believe in their ability to grow within the company.

Invest in your employees
Investing in your employees shows that you value their development and are willing to invest in their future. This can be done through training and development programs, as well as tuition reimbursement.

Communicate
Effective communication is essential in any business, but it’s especially important in a values-based company. You need to be clear about your company values.

How to embed your company values

Your company values are the foundation of your business. They guide your decision-making, shape your culture, and influence your bottom line.

But how do you ensure that your values are more than just words on a page?

How do you make them part of your company DNA?

Here are four ways to embed your company values into your business:

Practice what you preach.
Your employees are watching you. If you want them to live and breathe your company values, you need to do the same. Walk the talk by modelling the behaviour you want to see in your team.

Communicate, communicate, communicate.
You can’t embed your company values if your team doesn’t know what they are. Make sure everyone understands your values and how they fit into your company culture. Communicate your values often, in both formal and informal settings.

Put them into practice.
Your values should guide your day-to-day decision-making. When you’re faced with a difficult decision, ask yourself: which option aligns best with our values? This will help to ensure that your values are more than just words on a page.

Reward and recognize

The UK economy is in a strange place. Employment figures are at a record high, but overall growth remains sluggish. Rosier figures for the long-term health of the economy come along, then they’re downgraded. Small businesses are flourishing, but major high street retailers are going out of business on a weekly basis.

One clear and strong success story, however, is the UK tech industry. Showing amazing growth and proving attractive to investors, there seems to be no slowing the sector.

The Facts

Fresh figures from Tech Nation have echoed other sources in showing the tech industry is growing 2.6 times faster than the rest of the UK economy. In 2016, it was worth £170 billion, in 2018 this figure has grown to £184 billion. The report also showed that, outside of London, there are 16 ‘silicon suburb’ towns across the UK with a much higher than average tech employment rate, with towns like Bristol leading the way.

The report also underlined how fast tech firms in the UK are growing. UK GDP grew by 1.7 percent in 2016-17, but over the same period the tech sector grew by 4.5 percent. Alongside this was a five-times rise in the number of jobs in the tech industry, making it one of the healthiest and fastest growing employment sectors.

The Investment

All of this growth inspires, and in turn is fuelled by, a great deal of investment. International investors were particularly enthused by the UK tech industry, pouring money into firms in the hopes of finding the next Deliveroo or Zoopla. In 2016-17, British tech companies raised a total of £4.5 billion from venture capital sources, a doubling of the previous years total.

This could be, in no small part, due to the fact that many of the UK’s tech firms have an international reach and investors see great technology with an in-built global reach. A full third of London tech businesses, for example, have foreign clients, which outstrips the reach of California’s Silicon Valley. Domestic and foreign investors are seeing companies that have a bright future, very healthy growth and international reach. So, it should come as no surprise UK tech companies represent an attractive investment.

This has been shown in a number of high profile exits. Machesterfashion.com was sold for £750 million to a private equity investor and Leeds firm CallCredit was purchased for £1 billion. The incredible growth and underlying base for UK tech firms is providing fertile ground for firms with good ideas and the drive to succeed, with buyers and investors on hand to capitalise.

If you’re an ambitious tech firm, take a look at our business finance and capital investment options, we can help you get your hands on the money you need to move forwards in one of the most vibrant, successful sectors in the world.

When you’re running an SME, one of the biggest things that you are trying to achieve is high levels of productivity. Being productive means that your workforce is hitting targets and is producing high levels of work, which will in turn ensure that your SME can continue to grow.

With the benefits of productivity being so widely-known, it will probably come as a surprise that research conducted by The Close Brothers Group found that one in 20 SMEs don’t actually know what it means and one in 10 would rather not measure it at all.

So, why is productivity so important and how can you ensure that your SME is practicing it? Read on to find out more.

Time management

This is perhaps the most important thing for SMEs when it comes to remaining productive, especially if you are a start-up. It’s likely that you have a lot to do on any given day, and in order to ensure that you don’t fall behind, you will need to dedicate a certain amount of time to specific tasks and also think about what is the most pressing matter that needs to be dealt with first. Try writing out everything you need to get done and setting yourself a time limit for each one.

Don’t rush your work

When your workload is mounting, it can be tempting to start to rush through tasks in order to get things done quicker. It’s important to realize that this is counter-productive and is likely to slow you down in the long run. Rushing work is more likely to lead to mistakes which will mean that work will need to be redone. This can also have a negative impact on staff morale, which will in turn affect productivity, and the vicious cycle continues.

Consider the culture of your company

In most cases, happy workers are productive workers, so you’ll need to carefully consider the type of environment that you want to create within your company. Generally speaking, organizations that promote communication and encourage staff to interact with each other will have higher levels of productivity.

Collaborate

The benefits of running an SME is that you will have the ability to target a large, growing market. Unfortunately, however, it is also likely that you won’t be able to access as many resources as you would like to in order to reach your targets. To overcome this, consider the benefits of using shared infrastructure, shared services and complementary sales partnerships.

55% of SMEs in the UK are unable to secure the appropriate finance to meet their individual needs.

A report conducted by SME lender Liberis has found that for many businesses, the speed that funding can be obtained to help them grow is of the utmost importance. 22% of businesses need funding to help them maintain the day-to-day running of their organization, while 5% of new SMEs require finance to help them survive past the first year of business.

Whether an SME is in its early stages or is well-established and is now attempting to grow, sourcing the appropriate funding is always crucial for businesses.

Unfortunately, many SME owners lack the confidence and awareness that is needed to properly look for the finance they need and obtain it as well, and without the relevant guidance, many could find themselves running into financial difficulty.

We, at GIC Capital, through strong connections with substantial privately owned investment companies and an innate passion to get to know the companies that we work with inside out, we are able to provide effective funding that can help companies grow or simply maintain themselves at the level they are currently working at.

GIC Capital offers a number of different funding options for SMEs that are keen to expand including business overdrafts, which work in the same way as traditional bank overdrafts, giving businesses access to finance as and when they need it and providing them with a flexible approach to financing.

SMEs facing capacity and productivity challenges need to take a considered look at their current operations to identify the business-critical areas that they should be investing in. Recent research shows that it’s a problem that’s facing many SMEs across the UK, placing their goals and long-term plans at risk.

According to research from Opus Energy, just 14% of UK SMEs claim that productivity is not an issue, highlighting the extent of small businesses that are affected. Incentivising staff to ensure that productivity remains high is a challenge but with carefully selected investments, it is possible for SMEs to boost their output, earning a significant return on investment.

Finding, hiring, and retaining the best talent in the industry is no small task for businesses but it is possible for them to compete. Implementing competitive remuneration packages when filling vacancies can help give the business an instant productivity boost, particularly when the post holder is in a position of influence to spur on other employees.

It’s also important to note the impact equipment, software, and other assets have on the productivity of a business as a whole. If your team are using outdated equipment or don’t have the right digital tools at their disposal, it can have a huge impact on your capacity and output. For SMEs it can be a challenge to raise the capital they need to invest in these areas that have the potential to propel them to new heights, but lending can provide them with a solution.

Aiming to meet the needs of growing SMEs that need finance to fund their plans, we connect businesses with lending providers that can match their current circumstances.
